Executive Director, California Life Sciences Institute
Steven Karp is the Executive Director, Innovation Services at the California Life Sciences Institute (CLSI), building and managing its accelerator programs for early stage life science companies. Since 2013, CLSI’s core program, FAST, has supported 69 California companies which have collectively raised more than $1 billion since being in the program. CLSI also runs accelerator programs for groups worldwide developing innovative products in the life sciences.
Mr. Karp has extensive expertise in all aspects of alliance, program and operations management in the life sciences, including wide ranging experience in the business development, finance, regulatory and legal spheres. He has directed development and tech transfer programs for numerous products, including biologics, small molecules, and medical devices, invasive and non–invasive. Among these have been multiple immunology and cardiovascular therapeutics ranging from the pre-clinical stage through post marketing. He has run various collaborative research and development programs working with government, non-profits and private industry.
Prior to joining CLSI, Mr. Karp worked at the Intrexon Corporation in marketing and project management. He came to Intrexon from the Neugenesis Corporation, where he was Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, he worked in portfolio management at Genentech and alliance management at Discovery Partners International. He attended Harvard College.
